Hi, I'm Sophie :)
I'm excited you're here; it's proof of life through my little machine world. No doubt I'm checking the hits on this page daily and you've just given me the justification to spend a few more hours making this new land a bit more enchanting.
I was born, grew up in, and regularly return to my parents' house in Black Earth, Wisconsin. There, I learned to read, write, love, hate, and yearn--all a person really needs. I've put all 5 of those skills to good use over the years. Here is a word (or two) to describe extremely simplified versions of me that have existed in the past 21 years.
0-5: Talking Sophie: best exemplified by my mother's favorite thing to say to me then and now, "Sophie, Mommy can't listen ALL of the time"
5-10: Arts Sophie: painting, sewing, paper macheing, reading Harry Potter (against my mother's wishes #rebel), homemaking a valentine for each of my classmates, bringing in chocolate covered bananas for snack time, playing the lead in every school play, picking out my own outfits (stripes on stripes, anyone?)
10-15: Sports Sophie: Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Throwing, Rec Leagues, Under Armour headbands, running shorts daily, Olympic field hopeful (LA 28 here I come!)
15-20: Music Sophie: Oboe, oboe, and more oboe, color guard rifle captain (state champs! (almost)), Wisconsin Youth Symphony, jazz band solos one month after learning tenor sax, pit orchestras, Frank Zappa obsession, DIY shows, piercings galore, Library of Congress Music Division internship (yasssss I KNOW)
21: Sanguine Sophie: Currently, I am a senior at the University of Wisconsin-Madison pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in Oboe Performance with certificates (minors for you non-UW folk) in material culture studies and architecture. I've loved my time here, learned a lot, and been able to take advantage of countless fantastic opportunities. Moving forward, I would like to also dive back into textile arts and dance, both of which were things I enjoyed endlessly in my youth. I'm looking ahead through the lens of the past and finding that I've covered a lot of ground in two decades! While not as fragmented and distinct as I depicted it here, my life has definite eras--each with their own moments of great joy, success, and deficit. My goal is to be a talker, an artist, and athlete, a musician, and more, but this time all at once. I am searching for and discovering ways to sustainably combine and balance my interests in a way that fulfills me and encourages my continued growth. :)
My win for January 2026 is: I finished knitting my first sweater and it is BEAUTIFUL.
